Volker Blumenthaler

Hongsedehudïe

for alto saxophone and vibraphone 1992

Hongsedehudïe is Chinese for "red butterfly". At least, that´s what it denotes. Volker Blumenthaler´s piece however owes much of ist colouring to the connotations it usually has: "brightly coloured woman" or "voluptuous woman". Hongsedehudïe touches on these various contrasts of meaning (butterfly vs. woman, red vs. seduction, innocense vs. vitue etc.) by moving from one to the other like a butterfly hovering from flower to flower.
